It’s hard not to admire a Stihl, and the MS 271 is a mid-range chainsaw that lives up to that admiration. This particular model is the perfect camping chainsaw.
It comes with a standard 16″ bar, but is also available in an 18″ and a 20″ bar, making it ideal for logs. Its anti-vibration system dampens the machine engine’s oscillations, which means that your hands and arms don’t feel like they’ve been holding a jackhammer for hours. This is actually a health issue, as long-term use of chainsaws can affect the blood vessels in one’s arms and hands.
Cutting is very easy compared to other chainsaws–the front handle is ergonomically designed for comfortable grip.
One of the nicest features of the Stihl MS 271 is the heated carburetor. You can flip a switch from summer to winter operation, and it prevents the carburetor from icing up if you need to use it in freezing conditions.
It has an electronic ignition for problem-free start-up, and a lubrication system that delivers proper lubrication while reducing oil use by up to 50%. It also has a single lever for on-off, choke and throttle, which makes its start-up and continuation oh so easy.
It would be easy to list all the features that make the Stihl MS 271 perfect for campers, but the best thing you can do is test one out. You’ll be leaving wood at the site for the next three sets of campers.
